You may have heard that some IDS clinicians are using the do-it-yourself “Loop” app to create a hybrid closed-loop system. We’re not alone. Despite the complexity in getting it set up, there are more than a thousand people worldwide using this program to automate insulin delivery. We’ve found it to be a very effective system and would love to help more people access it, but the required equipment is getting harder to find.
That’s where YOU come in…
If you happen to have an old Medtronic pump collecting dust in the back of your closet (or at the bottom of a drawer, or wedged between sofa cushions), consider donating it to our office.
Specifically, we’re looking for Medtronic Paradigm pumps manufactured between 2006 and 2012 with the following model numbers:
515 or 715
522 or 722
523 or 723
554 or 754
The model number can be found on the back of the pump, after the letters MMT-.
If your pump is a 523/723 or 554/754, stick a battery in. After it boots up, press “esc” and scroll to the bottom of the status screen to check the firmware (software that drives the pump) number. We’re looking for firmware 2.4 or lower on US versions, 2.6 or lower on Canadian and Australian versions, and 2.7 or lower on other worldwide versions.
Of course, if you also have extra supplies (reservoirs, infusion sets), those would be appreciated as well. But the PUMPS are what we really need. Please ship to:
