Tandem announces FDA approval of their new Mobi insulin pump.

the differences and similarities between the T:Slim and Mobi pumps

Tandem has announced FDA approval of their new Mobi insulin pump.  The new system has similar features to Tandem’s T:Slim pump, including Control IQ (automated insulin delivery) technology.

However, there are several important differences:

The differences between the Tandem T:Slim and Mobi insulin pumps.

  • Mobi is about half the size of the T:Slim
  • The cartridge holds up to 200 units of insulin
  • The pump has only one button (for delivering boluses in fixed increments).  All other programming is performed via an iPhone mobile app
  • Any Tandem infusion set can be used, but there is also a 5” tubing option
  • The pump can placed in a sleeve for adhering directly to the skin (a clip option is also available)
  • It can be charged wirelessly

Mobi is approved for ages 6 and up.  Those who purchase a Tandem T:Slim pump between now and the end of 2023 can upgrade to Mobi for $199 once it becomes available.  Those using other pumps (including current T:Slim users) can switch to Mobi for $999 as long as there is sufficient time remaining on the current pump’s warranty.
