One of our colleagues in the UK, SmartStart Health, has launched SmartStart CGM, an app-based education program for CGM users.
The app is designed to help CGM users get better results in terms of their diabetes management. Does it work? In a word, yes. A proof of concept study showed that people who completed SmartStart CGM gained CGM knowledge and had both more time in range and less time below range.
The average knowledge score went up from 38% on the “welcome check” to 88% on the “final check.”
Before using SmartStart, only 25% of participants were meeting both the goals of at least 70% time in range (70-180 mg/dL) and less than 4% time below range (less than 70 mg/dL). Six weeks after completing SmartStart CGM, a whopping 65% reached both goals. The study included people on “open-loop” (non-automated, using pumps or injections) and automated insulin delivery systems.
