Last month… on Think Like a Pancreas—The Podcast

by Barb Wagstaff, Podcast Manager

  • Gary Scheiner spent time talking with Diabetes Dad, Tom Karlya in the episode, Dads and Diabetes.  They shared their perspectives on the multifaceted roles within a family affected by diabetes—offering insights into how to work with your spouse, how dads come to terms with a child’s diagnosis, and how children process and adapt when a parent is living with diabetes. Together, they explore the ways families can build understanding, resilience, and balance as they face diabetes together.
  • Kathryn Alvarez was joined by IDS client Austin Sympson to discuss Next Level Diabetes Management. Kathryn helped Austin transition to using Android APS Technology to manage his diabetes care. Learn why they felt this was his best option and what he thinks about it now.
  • Gary connected with author and friend, Riva Greenberg to discuss The Illusion of Glucose Control. Riva explains why, after having lived with diabetes for over fifty years, she feels that one cannot “control” diabetes. Listen to see how she feels you can still flourish and live a happy life with diabetes.
  • T1 pregnancy specialist Jennifer Smith shared the microphone with co-author Ginger Vieira as they shared highlights from the second edition of their book, Pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes: Your Month-to-Month Guide to Blood Sugar Management. If you have diabetes and are pregnant or are considering becoming pregnant, listen to the Pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes—The book and the authors podcast episode to learn how to navigate a healthy pregnancy, with or without natural childbirth.
