LAST MONTH’S SURVEY QUESTION:
In last month’s edition of Diabetes Bites, we asked for your preferred way to “breakfast”.
Here’s what your fellow Cheerio-Chompers have to say:
23% I have traditional (high-glycemic-index) breakfast foods
41% I combine traditional breakfast foods with slowly-digesting foods to minimize the “spike”
27% I stick with only slowly-digesting foods
9% I just don’t eat anything in the morning.
Breakfast can be particularly hard to manage because food tends to digest faster than at other meals, and “dawn phenomenon” hormones keep insulin from working as effectively as usual. However, with the proper insulin type, dose and timing, nothing should be off the table.
