IDS Monthly Survey: November 2022
LAST MONTH’S SURVEY QUESTION:
In last month’s edition of Diabetes Bites, we asked for your opinion on the use of dietary supplements.
Here’s how you responded:
11% I think they are a complete waste of money
10% I take them, but have serious doubts about their effectiveness
37% I only take supplements recommended by my healthcare provider
41% I believe pretty strongly in the use of supplements
1% I couldn’t survive without them
Looks as though there is a wide spectrum of opinions on this topic. While there is limited evidence showing a direct benefit of any supplements on glucose control, there are some supplements that have health effects that may improve quality of life and help stave off long-term complications.
Vitamin D, for example, has proven benefits for improving immune system function and reducing harmful inflammation, particularly in those with low levels of vitamin D.
