LAST MONTH’S SURVEY QUESTION:
In last month’s edition of Diabetes Bites, we asked what should be done to make weight-loss drugs (GLP-1s and GIP/GLP-1s) accessible to a much wider population.
Here’s how you responded:
6% Nothing should be done. The developers/makers of the drugs deserve to turn a profit.
19% The pharmaceutical companies should voluntarily lower the price significantly.
56% Laws should be passed to put a price limit on these drugs, similar to insulin.
19% Governments should require insurance companies to cover them for all who can benefit.
Limiting prices through legislation was the clear choice. Given the state of lobbying and contributions from pharmaceutical companies, this seems like an uphill climb. We probably need campaign finance reform to kick in first.
