IDS Monthly Survey: April 2024

LAST MONTH’S SURVEY QUESTION:

In last month’s edition of Diabetes Bites, we asked we asked how COVID affected your glucose levels (if you had COVID at some point):

42% It raised my blood sugar a LOT while I had it.

26% It raised my blood sugar a LITTLE while I had it.

8% It continued to cause higher blood sugars, even after the virus cleared.

24% It didn’t seem to affect my blood sugar at all.

More than three out of four people reported glucose elevations during (and sometimes after) experiencing COVID. This is consistent with research collected by the National Institutes of Health. Even mild cases of COVID tend to require increased insulin doses in order to maintain optimal glucose levels. Speak with your diabetes clinician about developing a glucose management plan in case of COVID or other illnesses.
