Hybrid Closed Loop Systems Reduce Lows

According to research data, people with type 1 diabetes who use a combined closed-loop insulin delivery system are less likely to experience severe hypoglycemia than those who don’t.

“Our real-world observational study shows a strong link between the use of combined closed-loop systems and a reduced risk of severe hypoglycemia,” says Osagie Ebekozien, MD, MPH, director. health at T1D Exchange, and Nudrat Noor, PhD, deputy director of population health at T1D Exchange, told Healio.

The researchers paired 1,537 people with type 1 diabetes using a hybrid closed-loop system, 1:1, with non-users.

Even with all the advantages of using a closed-loop system, hypos DO still occur, so it is advised to still keep glucagon available, adjust settings, and practice appropriate self-care.
