A grass-roots request from OmniPod’s President: Pat Sullivan

Our Type 1 Diabetes Community is stronger than ever. There’s no limit to what we can do when we stand together; Medicare’s coverage of Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) is proof of that ability. Unfortunately, the Medicare program only did half of its job when it approved coverage for CGM, because no decision has been made regarding coverage for the Omnipod® Insulin Management System.

IT’S TIME TO TELL MEDICARE TO FINISH ITS JOB AND COVER THE OMNIPOD® SYSTEM

Nearly every private insurer covers the Omnipod® System and Medicare covers every other FDA-cleared insulin delivery pump except the Omnipod® System. However, people relying on the Omnipod® System to manage their diabetes face a difficult and unfair choice when becoming a Medicare beneficiary: either pay out-of-pocket for the Omnipod® System or switch to another treatment option. Medicare beneficiaries with diabetes have waited far too long for Medicare to cover the Omnipod® System.

YOUR VOICE MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Last fall, thousands of Podders™ sent emails to their Members of Congress communicating how important it is for Medicare to cover the Omnipod® System. As a result, numerous key Members of Congress reached out to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), requesting coverage for the Omnipod® System. I can’t thank you enough for your support of the Podders™ who need this coverage. While we have made important progress, seniors who want to continue to rely on the Omnipod® System still have no coverage for it.
