TRIVIA TIME!

Last month we asked you to identify at least FOUR hormones produced by a healthy pancreas.

ANSWER: Glucagon, insulin, somatostatin, and vasoactive intestinal peptide (gastrin and amylin are others).  Besides all these, the pancreas also produces digestive enzymes that are essential for breaking down food that has entered the intestines.  Luckily, the autoimmune process that destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas leaves the rest of the pancreas intact.

8-) CONGRATS: Congratulations to Therese Richardson, a registered dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist at UnitPointe Health in Madison, Wisconsin, for being the first with the correct answer!

NEW QUESTION:

Think Like A Pancreas, by Gary Scheiner

Whoever said that nobody reads anymore has probably not interacted much with the T1D community. With technology changing and management techniques constantly evolving, the thirst for knowledge is difficult to quench!

Case in point:  “Think Like A Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes With Insulin” is now in its 3rd edition, and has been translated into six languages.

How many copies (print and electronic) of Think Like A Pancreas have been sold since the first edition came out in 2004?
