=>Last month: we asked you to name at least FIVE hormones that cause glucose levels to rise.
CONGRATS: Jen Adkins of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, who was the first person to provide correct answers!
QUESTION: Name at least FIVE hormones that cause glucose levels to rise.
ANSWER: Cortisol, epinephrine, glucagon, growth hormone and progesterone. Add to the mix: norepinephrine and thyroid hormone (which causes insulin resistance when over-produced).
With so many hormones causing glucose levels to rise, it is no wonder that insulin dosing is so complicated. Insulin is the only hormone that directly lowers glucose levels. Amylin, GIP and GLP slow/blunt the appearance of glucose in the bloodstream, but do not lower blood sugar directly.
THIS MONTH’S NEW TRIVIA QUESTION:

Those who know me know of my passion for basketball. I’ve been a big fan of the game since I was five, and still manage to play a few times a week.
In the past 25 years, there have been a number of players with T1D in the NBA. Can you name three?
