=>Last month: We asked for the secret ingredient that makes Fiasp insulin work faster than traditional aspart (Novolog/Novorapid).
QUESTION: What is the secret ingredient that makes Fiasp insulin work faster than traditional aspart (Novolog/Novorapid)?
ANSWER: Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3.
Several people asked if taking this vitamin by mouth would make their insulin work faster, but unfortunately, that won’t work. The molecule needs to be right near the capillaries below the skin where the insulin is infused in order to have the desired effect. Keep in mind that Fiasp (and Lilly’s “ultra rapid” insulin Lyumjev) only work slightly faster than traditional rapid-acting insulin. They should still be taken before eating, and should produce modest reductions in post-meal glucose spikes.
