No Sacrifice is Too Great
People with diabetes know all about sacrifice. We sacrifice our time, our comfort, our preferred foods, our sleep, our money and our peace of mind all for the sake of managing this annoying condition. Living with diabetes (what we call “lived experience”) separates us from everyone else. It allows us to truly understand what it’s like and empathize deeply with others who live with it.
The IDS staff has no shortage of lived experience. Collectively, we’ve been taking insulin for more than 240 years, along with all the fun that comes with it. Along the way, we try every conceivable treatment that comes along so that we can provide our clients with fair, balanced and insightful feedback.
My latest “experiment” involved a minor surgical procedure to have the Eversense 365-day continuous glucose sensor placed in my body. I’ve been using it for the past two weeks and have been keeping detailed notes about its various features as well as my “likes” and “dislikes”. Most people have the sensor inserted on the back of their arm, but I opted for the side of my abdomen to avoid potential complications while lifting weights and playing basketball. There have been a few mishaps, but experienced Eversense users have informed me that the system performs better over time so I plan to give this a thorough long-term trial.

Why am I doing this? After all, my usual CGM isn’t perfect, but it works fine. This is all about in-depth discovery. The more me and my team knows — about a device, a medication, a treatment approach — the better we can advise you. Who else would make that kind of sacrifice?
If you would like to learn more about the various diabetes technologies, medications and treatments that are available to you, who are you going to ask? Someone who has read about it, or someone who knows all the details and has used it personally? That’s what makes us special! To schedule an appointment with any of our clinicians, please call the office (610-642-6055, option 1) or look through our website: https://integrateddiabetes.com.
I hope you enjoy this month’s edition of Diabetes Bites – chock full of pertinent news, insightful clinician columns, practice updates, and other fun stuff. Your feedback is always appreciated.
