Dexcom Continues to Impress: Latest Innovations in Diabetes Management
by, IDS Intern, Krystal Bosenbark, MPH, MS
Dexcom is a giant in the world of continuous glucose monitors for diabetes management. They’ve recently been making big strides that will enable the company to continue changing the lives of people all over the world.

Back in early March, Dexcom announced that it had developed an exciting new feature for its G7 continuous glucose monitor (CGM) users.
The diabetes management tech company introduced a direct-to-Apple-Watch feature that will be launching for all G7 iOS users by the end of this year’s second quarter. In doing so, the G7 will be the only diabetes monitoring device so far that can directly connect to the Apple Watch without needing the iPhone as a middleman.
or those using Dexcom in other countries, this impressive new feature will be available to G7 users once it launches in their country.
Dexcom also recently launched Dexcom ONE+, their simpler system similar to the G7 (without AID pairing), to more European countries, while also expanding access to G7 to 16 additional countries.
This tremendous growth means that over 5 million people worldwide will now have the ability to experience the life-changing features offered by Dexcom products.
The first to connect its AID system with the G7 was Tandem in December 2023, and the Omnipod 5 is not far behind, slowly starting to roll out G7s to its users in February 2024.
The new Tandem Mobi pump is also anticipated to integrate with the G7, and is expected to do so later this year.
From the results of many research studies, Dexcom has been able to show the meaningful clinical impact of using the Dexcom G7 and G6 when integrated with automated insulin delivery (AID) systems.
When joined with the Omnipod 5, research participants maintained improvements in glycemic outcomes for up to two years, while also reducing rates of hypoglycemia and DKA.
When connected with Tandem, evidence suggested that participants experienced lower rates of severe hypoglycemia and DKA over a 12-month period compared to the time period before use, and that time in range improved for both adult and youth participants.
Dexcom plans to continue its research, preparing to present results from a study examining CGM benefits on mortality in those with either T1D or T2D using insulin.
In a study with T2D participants using GLP1 inhibitors, findings showed that using a CGM regularly increased time spent in range. In a similar study with T2D participants, results revealed that those using basal insulin and a CGM benefited from being able to visualize the impact of their treatment and lifestyle modifications on glucose levels.
Dexcom’s reach and influence continue to grow at an extraordinary pace, and we can’t wait to see what comes from them in the future.
