Calendar Reminders and Other Tips That Can Help you Keep your Diabetes Management Open Source System Running Smoothly

Once you are up and running with your Open Source Code algorithm driven system, there are a few key things you will want to be aware of to keep things running smoothly.

  1. First, make sure you are signed up for Loop and Learn’s Newsletter. The free newsletter provides up-to-date information about upcoming or newly available updates, instructions that may be time sensitive and require you to take action with your build to keep your app or apps running, and includes links to questions people ask in the Loop and Learn Facebook group.

Next, use a calendar to remind yourself to check on a few key items:

  1. Your Apple Developer account membership’s annual payment renewal date.  Set your reminder to check a week before the next annual payment is due. Ensure the credit card linked to your account is still current and valid.
  2. You must re-sign your Apple Developer License Agreement annually. Do this while you are checking on your annual payment details.
  3. A) If you use the Browser Build Method, set a monthly reminder on the first Thursday of each month.
    >Log into GitHub, look at each of your repositories, and check to ensure you see a recent, successful build.
    >If you see an unsuccessful build, you have at least 2 months to resolve the build issue before your Loop or Trio app expires. This is a very important tip to be aware of!
    > If you never look at your GitHub, and especially if the app is on your child’s phone, you may not notice the expiration date is coming up until the app stops working!
    B) With Mac Build, set an annual reminder at least 7 days before the expiration date of your Loop build. Once annually, you need to rebuild it! It is good practice and helps to keep the version of Loop you are using up to date.

One other tip: Ensure the email you used for your Apple Developer account is an email you commonly use.

If it isn’t, consider setting up a rule to forward emails from Test Flight (Browser Build only) and Apple Developer to your preferred email address.  The emails can alert you to a successful or unsuccessful build, warn you if an upcoming deadline is approaching, or tell you there is a new version available that has been automatically built (Browser Build).
