Aging Well with Diabetes: A 10-point Action Plan for Older Adults (by Medha Munshi, MD, and Sheri Colberg, PHD) provides a quality 10-step plan for navigating life with diabetes into the later years of life.
If anyone has read a book on aging before, you’ll know that the foundation for how we set up our older years with quality of life, doesn’t start at 50 or 60, but in our early years. The foundation for aging well starts before we hit 30!
In this well-organized book, it is easy to follow the simple strategic changes that are beneficial to make in your day-to-day routine that will make a big difference.
The book offers explanation for why each of the 10 steps is valuable. Each step provides explanation beyond diabetes for the other health conditions that can be impacted as well as why making the changes can help prevent someone who lives with diabetes from increasing their risk.
Heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s/dementia are among the nation’s top “killers”, with diabetes (more specifically type 2) being the 4th of those at the top. While living with diabetes takes work, the effort we put in along the way can make a difference in our older years.
Considering we are aging every day from conception, the suggestion should be for every person living with diabetes to read this book. The sooner in life with diabetes, the better.
