A New Non-Invasive CGM Is On The Horizon

Isaac-CGM

By Ryanne Paul, Integrated Diabetes Services Intern

Diabetes technology is advancing again just in time for Christmas 2025.

Did you hear? There’s a new continuous glucose monitor (CGM) coming out!

Isaac-CGM

The PreEvnt CGM Isaac will be joining the front lines with its contenders: Dexcom, FreeStyle Libre, and Guardian.

The CGM Isaac will work like the other CGMs and provide real-time readings of blood glucose.

What’s the difference between this CGM and the others?

Isaac is the first CGM that is non-invasive- yeah that’s right. Nothing pierces the skin.

The mechanism used by Isaac involves using volatile organic compound (VOC) detection, specifically acetone, from exhaled breath to identify elevated blood glucose levels. Isaac is still under FDA review.

Unfortunately, there isn’t as much information on Isaac as there is on the other CGMs but it does worry me. VOC levels to measure glucose values? What happens when we get sick? Will this cause falsely elevated glucose values? The fact that Isaac needs to be charged every day could also cause a problem.

I remain hopefully optimistic, but realistic, for diabetes technology in 2025.
